HARRISBURG – Senators Ryan Aument (R-36) and Scott Martin (R-13) issued the following statement today regarding the pending retirement of Lancaster County Court of Common Pleas, Second Judicial District, Judge Jay Hoberg, which becomes effective at the close of business on January 31, 2018.
“We thank Judge Hoberg for his distinguished service to Lancaster County and its residents during his time on the bench. He clearly took seriously his duties to be a fair and impartial jurist and our courthouse and those that appeared before him benefited from his service. We certainly wish him well as he retires from his duties on the court.
Now, we look forward to working with the Governor to seek a highly qualified candidate to expeditiously fill the coming vacancy so that the important work of the Lancaster County Court of Common Pleas can continue without interruption.
Under the Pennsylvania Constitution, in order to fill this vacancy until the next scheduled election, the Governor must appoint an individual with the advice and consent of the Pennsylvania Senate.
As such, we encourage individuals who believe that they are qualified to serve as an interim Judge in the Court of Common Pleas in Lancaster County to forward a written letter of intent as well as current curriculum vitae to each of our district offices.
Submissions must be received in each district office no later than close of business, Friday, January 12, 2018.
We take this responsibility seriously and intend to promote a fair selection and appointment process in fulfillment of our Constitutional obligations.”
