Swearing-in Ceremony Kicks of Legislative Session

It was an incredible honor to take the oath of office to begin serving my first term in the state Senate earlier this month. I am anxious to get to work and begin addressing the problems and concerns facing both state government and local communities.

Photos, video and additional details regarding the swearing-in ceremony are available on my website at senatorscottmartinpa.com.

Throughout my campaign for Senate and my career in public service, I’ve spoken with numerous community residents who have genuine concerns about how their tax dollars are being spent. I look forward to continuing the fight for more efficient and effective government in Harrisburg, eliminating wasteful spending and creating an environment conducive for economic growth and opportunity for Lancaster County families

We are fortunate to live in an area with strong values and character, and my goal is to ensure we can pass along this way of life to our children and grandchildren. It is an incredible honor to represent our area in the Senate. I appreciate the trust that has been placed in me my Lancaster County residents, and I will do my best to make sure that our voices are heard and our interests are well-represented in Harrisburg.

Committee Assignments Reflect Our Region’s Priorities

Much of the legislative work of the General Assembly is accomplished by the various committees that are tasked with studying individual issues of importance to Pennsylvania communities. I am very pleased that my committee assignments for the 2017-18 Legislative Session reflect many of the concerns that local residents shared with me when I served as Lancaster County Commissioner and when I traveled throughout the area on my campaign for Senate over the past year.

Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati appointed me to serve as a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee; Senate Local Government Committee, Vice Chair; Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee; Senate Health and Human Services Committee; Senate Aging and Youth Committee; and Senate Communications and Technology Committee.

These committees cover a wide range of subject matter that affect our region, from the creation of a responsible state budget to protecting taxpayers and delivering the most effective and efficient services to some of our most vulnerable citizens. I look forward to getting to work with my colleagues on these committees to improve the quality of life in Lancaster County communities.

Keeping in Touch with Local Communities

One of the most important duties of an elected official is responding to the questions and concerns of community residents. Untangling the mess of bureaucratic red tape in Harrisburg and ensuring that government is responsive to the needs of taxpayers are high on my list of priorities.

I recently opened a district office in downtown Lancaster on the 3rd floor of the Historic Post Office Building at 48-50 West Chestnut Street in Suite 308. I encourage constituents to stop by the office or call (717) 397-1309 if I can offer assistance with any problem pertaining to state government.

My website at senatorscottmartinpa.com will also serve as a point or contact for constituents who have questions or concerns. In the near future, the website will include all of the latest news from the Senate, as well as helpful links and resources for local individuals and families.

I invite you to contact me if you need help with any state government question or problem, or if you want to voice your opinion or receive more information on issues of interest.
